At August 6th, 1926 by pressing a button, Senator William M. Butler dispatched the first container throught the 14 mile long Boston Postal Pneumatic Tube System. The first carrier contained the American flag and letters to The President, the Postmaster General and several other prominent citizens of Boston.
During normal use, the carriers could be filled with over 600 letters and postcards.
The speed of the carrier was around 35 miles per hour.
